Virtual Disk A virtual disk is a software, recognized as a disk drive / storage device by the computer. Virtual disk programs support mounting and unmounting of disk image volumes and can be shared across a network just as real disk drives. Advantages : reducing wear of optical disks, effectively creating extra disk drives and higher speed of access to volumes.
