Whozon is a Perl/Tk program that can be used to find people on the Internet and communicate with them. Whozon is similar to ICQ and AOL's Instant Message which allow you to find other people on the Internet and to send messages back and forth. The major difference is that whozon uses a distributed directory (in each user's initialization file) compared to the other programs' centralized directory. Whozon's solution delivers a higher degree of privacy at the expense of not being able to search a single directory for users. Without a central system, whozon cannot leave messages to be delivered when a user logs on. It can, however, hold a single message for each offline user while it is running. Because it is written in Perl/Tk, it is able to run on most, if not all, Unix systems (including Linux) and Microsoft's Windows 95/98 and NT systems.
