An embedded database is a database that is inside another software product. The operating environment for embedded database can range from big Unix servers to PDAs. Embedded database needs to be very robust and never fail. Reporting functions may not be included with embedded database.

ObjectDB
ObjectDB is a powerful yet compact Object Database Management System (ODBMS), written entirely in Java, and compliant with the new Java Data Objects (JDO) standard developed by Sun (JSR12). ObjectDB is designed to efficiently handle databases of various sizes, ranged from a few KBs to hundreds of GBs.
